Is a Toblerone a Bar? A Rigorous Treatment of Segmented Confections

2026-07-06

Harry Foster and I have written a paper. I maintain that a Toblerone is a chocolate bar. Harry maintains that it is not. We were unable to resolve this.

The paper is a joint effort in the sense that we share an axiom system and disagree entirely about what follows from it. The first result (mine) proves the Toblerone is a bar. The second result (Harry's) proves it is a segmented confection homeomorphic to a box of chocolates. We then prove these two results are mutually incompatible, model the dispute as a game, and show it has no pure-strategy Nash equilibrium. Claude is listed as a third author; it declined the honour and was added anyway.

The one thing all three authors agree on: the Terry's Chocolate Orange is horrid. This is Corollary 4, and it is unanimous.

A draft is available here.
