Duration: 50 minutes
Goal. Open with a memorable game that exposes escalation and sunk cost, and set the rhythm of activity-then-discussion for the course.
Play the dollar auction game (with £5).
Top two bidders pay, winner gets to keep the £5.
Talk about strategy (briefly!), detail that we will do things like this every class: first 20 minutes will be an activity and the second will be a discussion of theory. Sometimes we will not finish the discussion.
A note on bribentives. Several later activities reward players with a bribentive. The word is a blend of bribe and incentive: the reward is usually just a sweet or a chocolate bar, so it is not really a good incentive, more a small bribe for engagement.

Hi all,
I hope you are all well.
This is a brief email before our first class.
All of the course materials are available at
https://vknight.org/gt/.
I realise that some of you are no doubt still deciding whether or not you
will choose Game Theory this Autumn Semester. During our first class I
will hopefully answer any questions you have, but please don't hesitate to
use the chat if there's anything you'd like to know as you choose your
modules.
Please get in touch if I can assist with anything,
Vince
